Brazil and EU halt negotiations on “Open Skies” agreement

It has been a long time coming but Brazil and the European Union have put a stop to negotiations on a broad “Open Skies” agreement that would have lifted restrictions on flights permitted to operate between the two sides of the Atlantic.

A communiqué forwarded to Brussels by the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC), which has not yet received a formal reply, sets the tone for the new approach:

Brazilian authorities have gotten tired of waiting, and believe that the discussions do not go anywhere else. They would now instead try negotiating aviation pacts with each EU member state individually.
